From 28 June 2009 a new technology, known as Extended Access Control has been applied in order to protect digital fingerprints data included in the chip of second generation e-passports.
By its separate and independent departments the Central Office for Administrative and Electronic Public Services also acts as Country Verifying Certification Authority as well as national Document Verification Authority. The CVCA and DV Authorities are responsible for issuing certificates, which are necessary to read data stored in the chip of the Hungarian machine readable e-passports and travel documents.
In absence of these Certificates the document reader machines can access only to the electronic data stored on the printed data page of the passport.
