Hungary can be connected to the National Public Key Directory even this year – Straight road to the aviation safety
07 January 2013
CSCA certificates and all revocation lists of travel documents manufactured from 2006 till now and inspected at border crossing had been uploaded. Thereafter the experts of ICAO centre confirmed the uploading of data files in written form as well and expressed their pleasure about the fact, that Hungary has entered into the last stage of live connection by uploading these data as 18th member state (out of 191 member states). The NPKD (National Public Key Directory) connection to the central data directory of the ICAO PKD can be realized by the end of 2012 resulting a significant progress and meeting the international aviation safety and travel document inspection requirements.

In Hungary the development carried out by KEKKH on schedule was completed with successful tests in 2012. Ms. Andrea Malcsiner Head of Unit, and Mr. Krisztián Horváth, Service Manager represented KEKKH in the ICAO centre in Montreal. The NPKD developed and operated by our Office has a key role.

The ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) was established by the United Nations Organization in 1944 to fulfil specialized agency functions.

Its primary task is to support the safe and proper development of international civil aviation. It defines those standards and regulations, which serve as guidelines regarding aviation safety and environment protection as well. The number of ICAO member states is currently 191.

The inspection of travel documents at border crossing is closely related to the aviation safety tasks. Regarding this topic one of the most important tasks is to ensure access to the member states to the PKD (Public Key Directory) system created by the ICAO. Since 2009 the ICAO member states have had the opportunity to join these databases and to upload data continuously.
