Interpreting Service “KONTAKT” is a video-based sign language interpreting system considered innovative even in Europe for the deaf, hard of hearing and speech-impaired people to communicate with hearing people in real-time, via a sign language interpreter. In this case the deaf, or hard of hearing customer and the interpreter communicate with each other via a video telecommunications link (no on-site/remote interpretation) then the third party, hearing person - colleague of the Personal Customer Service Centre – is also gets involved in the communication by an audio link.
Based on the aforementioned development the primary objective of the project started on 17 March 2014 by the Hungarian Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is that the national sign language interpreter service funded by the Hungarian Government can be operated more efficiently than before; to provide the Hungarian deaf community with an easily accessible communication platform, which is available as far as possible everywhere. As a result of successful cooperation with the Association, from 1st of June 2014 at the Personal Customer Service Centre of KEKKH in Visegrádi utca the service has been available to all deaf and hard of hearing customers.
