As of 29 th August 2006 the Republic of Hungary has been issuing e-passports containing a chip with biometric information about the passport holder.
The Central Office for Administrative and Electronic Public Services, being the e-passport issuer authority, carries out the personalization of passports and loads data into the chip, including the facial image of the passport holder as a biometric identifier. Via its separate and independent departments the Central Office for Administrative and Electronic Public Services also acts as national Document Signer Authority as well as Country Signing Certificate Authority.
